At the recent consultative meeting held at the Grovenor House Hotel, members of the Property Claims Forum (representing Churchill, Lloyds TSB and Halifax General Insurance), together with Loss Adjusting colleagues, expressed great interest in the aims and ambitions of the AIBC, commenting that any organisation that sought to regulate the Building Industry (as it pertains to Insurance) would be widely welcomed by an Industry (Insurance) that has itself been heavily regulated and controlled In a recent article (Annual Review of Complaint Trends 1st Aril 2003 -31st March 2004 - updated 20th Aril 2005), the Financial Ombudsman made the following statement: ![]() Insurers marketing material often stresses the advantage to customers of having the insurer take care of arrangements for any repairs. The high standards and professionalism of the repair firm, appointed by the insurer, will provide, are emphasised. This can naturally lead to customers having high - and sometimes unrealistic - expectations. If Insurers had an effective means of overseeing the quality of the repairers they appoint, then it seems to us that there would be far fewer complaints of this type" This article clearly and concisely encapsulates why the AIBC was created in that it recognises that whilst Insurers do have audited networks of builders, there is a very real need for an additional layer of vetting/guarantee of quality that does not currently exist. |
